Hi Franke!  Welcome to WiiZA! Smiley

My advice would be to just start reading on one end of the forum and work your way through the whole thing.  We have many different threads on many different games, accessories, services, and all kinds of things to do with Wii!

You will find Wii software and hardware stocked by Game, CNA, Incredible Connection, Pick & Pay Hypermarket and gaming speciality chain, BT Games.  But worth adding here is that many Wii games you won't find in these brick and mortar retail stores.  You will have to order them from on-line retailers.  You'll find links to those on the forum too, although I believe our general favourite is Take 2, a local company that mainly sells items from local suppliers, but also offers an import service for items from the UK that will work on local machines (More UK imports).  Needless to say, it's always a good idea to compare prices!

Wii has huge variety in terms of available software.  For that reason I'm a bit hesitant about making too many recommendations.  Maybe your first stop should be this recent thread on the subject of game recommendations (Top 10 game suggestions ).  And there are many more threads like it.

Have fun!

Thanks for that update BOERSEUN.

Just joined this forum and stumbled accross this thread.

I am also keen on buying a WII for us and the Kids !!

Just a silly question....what are the negatives regarding buying a 2nd hand console and accessories from maybe someone on this Forum.

Is it not better to just buy a new system with warranty etc. ??

Please advise........

Welcome RomP!

Having a warranty is always a bonus.  However Nintendo's products do tend to be well designed, well made and very durable.  They just respect their customers too much to sell them a fundamentally broken design manufactured with minimal quality control.

I own three Wii's - PAL, NTSC-US and NTSC-JPN.  All three were imported by their original owners after which I bought them second-hand.  I havn't had problems with any of them (although admittedly the Japanese unit doesn't get a lot of use).

I think the question becomes "what can you afford?"  Buying a second-hand bundle should be cheaper than buying everything separately.  It should also come with games, so you can use the system immediately.

Let us know what you decide and be sure to write up your impressions when you have made the purchase.

IGN has a really good Wii Guide for first time buyers.  They explain exactly what you need to get started.

The best thing about buying a Wii for the kids is WiiWare and Virtual Console games.  You can buy 1000 Wii points for about R80 (£7) straight on the Wii console, as long as it is connected to the internet.  Then you can spend these points on either new games designed for the Wii (WiiWare), or classic Nintendo games that have been re-released on the Wii (Virtual Console).  A lot of the classic games and even some of the WiiWare ones cost 500 points, which means that kids can save up their tuckshop money and buy a new game regularly.  It'll keep them happy and entertained without breaking the budget.
